This wonderful cake is so very special for me coz I tried for the first time my hands on frozen cream transfer and moreover I wanted to make something really different for my son on his birthday !!! He is crazy about the cartoon Doremon and I was in great search for more than two months on what I should be making for him. Though I did come up with many other ideas, it was at the very last minute I changed my plans.
The research for getting this done was followed up almost everyday and with the help of Youtube, and Google,I understood the technique. Then, it was the fixing of which picture I should go about which was confusing me. After lots of Google search, I opted this picture. With lost of practicing in the mind on how to get this done, I finally made up my mind to go for it done.
The actual recipe calls for frozen butter-cream, but since I had lots of whipped cream with me, I choose to opt for it. You really need lots of patience and a steady hand to get this done perfectly. I did the drawing and the work two days before as it needs time for setting and kept it frozen.
Coming to the cake, even the flavor was a last minute pick and I am glad I did that. It was such a super hit that the cake just got vanished the moment my son cut it. Very soft and moist and of all I made this in the microwave. It just turned out as perfect as a cake baked in an oven. The texture, softness and taste were all unexpectedly great.
All this was done at night, as I really wanted to surprise my son and on his birthday, when we took the cake out for cutting, he was all so happy and jaws dropped as he never expected he would be having his favorite character all there for him. That smile, happiness and joy on his face made my day.
Kindly excuse me for the not so perfect outcome, but definitely would get it done better next time!!! These pictures too were shot at night, as I did not want to loose the work done, by any chance and could not wait till morning….lol….
Ingredients For the Cake
1 3/4 cups All purpose flour plus little more for dusting pans.
2 cups powdered sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened Cocoa powder
2 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup cold buttermilk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 cup freshly brewed black coffee.
Whipped cream for the entire cake.
Requirements for frozen cream transfer.
The picture you desire to have
Butter paper cut as per the size required
Pencil or pen
A flat board for fixing the picture
Food colors – I used blue, red, chocolate brown, orange, and yellow.( depends on the picture)
Piping bags and fine tips
Whipped cream in generous amounts
For the Frozen Cream transfer, first trace the picture on a butter paper. Then stick this paper on a flat surface with the help of cello tapes, with the back side facing you. I used the reverse side of my baking tray.
Do the detailing first and then the filling. The completed picture need to be kept frozen at least for 24 hours.
. For the cake – Either pre-heat the oven at 180 degree C or you could make this in a microwave by microwaving the prepared batter for about 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
. Sieve the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and baking powder into a bowl and keep aside.
. In another bowl, first beat the eggs and powdered sugar till fluffy. Then add in the vegetable oil, buttermilk and vanilla essence and beat well.
. Fold in the dry mix to the wet mix till well combined.
. Then add the prepared coffee and mix well.
. Bake the cake for about 25-30 minutes or till done, or you could even microwave it as mentioned.
. Let the cakes cool. Once cooled, transfer one cake onto a stand or board and fill with whip cream and then layer with the next cake. Then evenly spread the whipped cream on the cake and allow it to set in the refrigerator.
. Once the cream has set, take the cake out and the prepared frozen cream setting . Then carefully, remove the butter paper from the board and flip it carefully onto the cake. This has to be done very carefully and gently.
. Peel of the butter paper, very very gently and carefully, so that the picture gets to the cake. ( Just like how you do the peeling for paper tattoos )
. The cake is ready. Either you could cut it immediately or cool it till when required.
My family enjoyed the lovely cake and this has motivated me for more experiments…..lol
