Naan or also known as Flat Indian Bread is always my favorites. Whenever we go to eat out, this would be one pick I always go for. the combinations are just fantastic and there are any variants coming up now these days. Using the tandoor gives the best naan, yet you can definitely make them stove topped and it tastes just like the tandoor. My kids also love it very much and I do make them very often at home.
This time I thought, I would go for something different and ended up in this garlic naan. It was just great. Simple and similar to the original Naan version, but just with the addition of garlic. But that does make a lot of difference in the taste. I made this for breakfast and packed for my son for his lunch too. He was just happy when he saw them being cooked when he got up in the morning. T o make it more healthy, I did a combination of wheat flour and all purpose flour.
The photographs taken here were at 7.am and so there is a bit lighting problem. My son leaves around 6.50 am and by then it was ready. I did not want to wait for long to loose the great look and more over I had my work also to be completed, after which I have to get my daughter to school and by then it would be very sunny and I cannot take a shot.
It was welcomed so happily at home and I made just a simple mashed potato as a side dish for the naan. Anything spicy is the perfect combination with naan.
Servings – 4-5
1 1/2 cups Wheat flour
3/4 cups All purpose flour
1 cup warm Milk
1 tsp Yeast
9-10 cloves of Garlic, smashed and finely sliced
2 tbsp melted butter
1 cup finely chopped coriander leaves
. In a large basin, combine all the ingredients except the garlic and knead to a soft dough.
. Using a damp cloth, cover the dough and leave it to rest overnight. This make the dough double in size.
. Next day, knead it once again and make a well in the center. To this add the finely chopped garlic and knead once again, occasional dusting your hands with all purpose flour.
. Roll out small lemon sized balls and with the help of a rolling pin, flatten them.
. To make them to cone shapes, cut the flattened round dough diagonally.
. On to a hot pan, cook the naan about 2-3 mins on each side, flipping occasionally. When browning, brush little butter and garnish with finely chopped coriander immediately, so that it sticks to it.
. Serve hot with any side dishes of your choice. Like for example Spicy Chicken, Kheema Chicken , Chicken with cream and yogurt, Honey glazed chicken or for the vegetarians they could go for the Chickpea curry, or chilly paneer
Notes:- Another way of getting the garlic flavor is by making a paste of the garlic and mixing with the melted butter and then brushing over the cooked naan. In anyway you could get the flavor and enjoy the hot naans.
