Well I love wines, but have never made them. My mom makes excellent wines and I have heard that her wines were in great demand. Wines could be made from various items, preferably fruits. Earlier I made my first wine with Red grape and it turned out good, but then I did not have a blog to put in….lol…
This time I thought I would make with something different and landed up with apples. Basically to make wine is easy. The key to great wine is, the longer they are untouched, the stronger they become. To get the best wines, you need to keep them in earthen pots and if possible, under soil. Trust me, you would get the best wines that are very strong too. But for people like me who are in the cities and live in apartments, going in search of soil is not possible, so find the darkest place in your house and store them there, undisturbed.
I wanted to surprise my hubby, and till now he has not known that I have made this….Shhhhhhhhh, But with this post, everything is out…lol… With Christmas round the corner, I could not resist myself from making a homemade wine. Trust me, this did turn out good and does not need much time.
Servings – 4 large bottles
2 kgs Red Apples that are sweet.
2 egg whites
2 kg Sugar
1 tsp Yeast
Juice of 3 lemons
2 liters Water
A handful of broken Wheat
. Wash the apples thoroughly and chop them into chunks.
. In a large earthen pot ( also called as Bharani in Malayalam), mix all the ingredients.
. For nine days, mix with a clean and dry wooden spoon.
. Then seal and keep in dark for a minimum of 45 days untouched.
. Later, using a clean mesh cloth, drain the content to a clean vessel.
. Store them in glass bottles in a dark place and serve when required.
Tips : If you need more of dark color, caramelize about 1/2 cup sugar and add after two days of draining the wine.
You could make for any quantity you want. Just make alterations in the measurements accordingly.
