Paneer or also known as cottage cheese is a common dish at my home. If a dish with paneer is prepared, then my kids do not need anything else. It is good and healthy as it is a milk product and you could get to buy them from stores or even you could make them at home. There are plenty number of recipes that you could make with paneer, but this one is simple and a great. A perfect side dish for rice , chapatis or breads.
Serves – 4-5
Paneer ( Cottage Cheese ) Cubes – 500 gm
Onion finely chopped – 1 cup
Green bell pepper diced roughly – 1 cup
Red bell pepper diced roughly – 1 cup
Yellow bell pepper diced roughly – 1 cup
Green Chilly – 2 nos
Red Chilly – 2 nos
Garlic – 3-4 cloves
Ginger finely chopped – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Red chilly powder – 1 tsp
Tomato Sauce – 3 – 4 tbsp
Coriander leaves – handful
Parsley – 1 tbsp
Curry leaves – a few
Pepper powder – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
. Wash the cubed paneer and marinate with salt and pepper and keep aside for a few minutes.
. In a hot pan, add oil and shallow fry the cubes till sides brown slowly. Then take off from flame and drain the excess oil.
. To the same pan, if sufficient oil is not present add a little more and to this add the onions, garlic , ginger, green and red chilies and sauté well.
. When onions get translucent, add in the bell peppers and mix well. When these get softened , add in the turmeric and chilly powder. Mix well
. Then add the tomato sauce and curry leaves and a little bit of salt and a touch of water.
. To this add the fried paneer and give a good mix.
. Add the coriander and parsley leaves and turn off flame and give a thorough mix. It automatically gets thickened as only little water should be added.
. Garnish and serve hot.
