Idli for Snack
Idli is one among the most common foods for breakfasts in South India. It is healthy and tasty at the same time. Since it is steamed, it is very good for health. It is usually accompanied with chutney or sambhar ( a mix of vegetable curry).
Now, having remnants from the morning breakfast is not something new. Most of the time we all have little remnants, which we either store for the next day or come up with something innovative. This is also one such dish that was very creatively made by my mother for us when we were back from school and now I follow it for my kids. They just love it and it is very simple.
Rice – 3 cups
Urdu Dal – 1 cup
. Soak the rice and dal for about 4-5 hours.
. Drain the water and grind the mixture to a smooth batter consistency. Not too thin and not too thick. Add salt.
. Allow the batter sit overnight . ( For best result grind the contents in the evening) Idli for Breakfast
. Pour a spoonful of batter on the Idli tray and steam for about 5-10 mins or till done. You get fresh Idlis.
. With the remnant ones, just cut them length wise to 3-4 strips of each idly.
. Deep fry them and serve hot with tomato ketchup. ( You can even do shallow frying till all sides are crispy for health reasons)
A perfect evening snack along with a hot cup of tea…
