This one I learnt it from my mom. She is an expert and I took her recipe and now I make them often and my kids just love it. It is simple and you need not run to restaurants when you feel like having one. Soft and tasty and goes well with any side dish ( veg or non-veg) .
Serves – 3-4
All purpose flour – 3 cups
Egg – 1 Nos
Powdered Sugar – 1 1/2 tbsp
Salt – 1 tsp
Yeast – 3/4 tsp
Milk – 2 cups.
. In a large vessel, add in all the ingredients and knead well to make a smooth dough, ( I did not use water , but kneaded fully in milk) just like we make for chapatis ( flat Indian bread).
. Wrap the dough with a damp cloth and leave it overnight.
. Next day, sprinkle little flour and knead well again to get the sticky texture out.
. Make small lemon size balls from the dough.
. Flatten them thin , by dipping frequently in the flour so that they dont stick to your hands.
. Cook them on a hot tava or pan.
. When done, juts apply some butter on both sides and heat for a fea seconds.
. Serve hot with a dish of your choice.
Note : The difference here with the restaurant Butter Nan is that I have used very less amount of butter, whereas the ones that you get out uses a great amount of butter, both in the dough and outside too. In case you are diet conscious and do not want butter, you can definitely avoid the last step and have it as a plain Nan.
I use butter only for kids, for us, we have it as plain Nan. Both ways, it does tastes great !!!
